PÉTANQUE

From Provençal, the french pèd tanco, literally translates 'foot fixed (to the ground)', describing the start position. Pétanque is a form of boules where the goal is to throw hollow metal balls as close as possible to a small wooden ball called a cochonnet.

About

Pétanque, is played by two teams, where each team consists of one, two, or three players

A game consists of several rounds. A round is finished when both teams have thrown all of their boules. A point is awarded for each boules landing closer to the cochonnet than the opposing team’s nearest boule.

A game consists of as many ends as is necessary for one of the teams to score 13, the winning number of points.

“A popular game in France, Baranis can boast the only indoor Pétanque court in the UK. It’s much more exciting than it might sound, especially after a cocktail or two when things (speaking from experience) can start to get a bit competitive.” – Ben Norum, Londonist.com, Full Review
